About Us

The North Sydney Historical Society and the North Sydney Museum started in 1985, with the Museum’s first location being on the floor of a now demolished building on Commercial Street. It moved to the basement of the town Library after that where it served the community for the last 20 years. You can see pictures from the old museum in the gallery to the right.

It displayed hundreds of articles, pictures, and artefacts from the towns past for free. Like the new museum, donations are appreciated but not required. The old Museum would have a thousand visitors a year and that is likely to improve with the new museum due to its new highly-visible location and improved layout. Unlike the previous museums, the new museum will display it’s artefacts in a rotating cycle so you may see something new with every visit.

The current Historical Society has 38 members and they welcome anyone to join. All that is needed is a yearly donation and to attend the meetings held on the third Tuesday of every month. Donations can be made in person at the museum.

We look forward to your visit.
